What are payment links for?

I came across this documentation Payment Links , what business use-case are payments links used? I’m trying to gauge if this is applicable to one of our products.

Payment Links are a no-code solution that allows merchants to accept payments by sharing a unique, personalized URL via messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Viber, SMS) or email. This is ideal for businesses that want to receive payments quickly without building a website or integrating APIs. Common use cases include:

  • Freelancers invoicing clients via messaging apps
  • Small businesses selling products or services on-the-go
  • Service providers (e.g., tutors, consultants) collecting payments directly from customers
  • One-time sales where a quick, shareable payment option is needed

The customer clicks the link, is redirected to Maya’s secure payment page, and can pay using cards, e-wallets (like Maya, GCash), or QRPh. No API keys are required, and payments are tracked via the Maya Business Manager dashboard.

But isn’t there a new policy or law that prohibits companies to use links in sms and emails, and other online channels?
